BÖHLER FOX EV 50-W is a basic coated electrode of the E7016-1 H4R type intended for high quality joints, with the root pass in mind. The manufacturer designed it for alternating current, and for the root itself recommends DC with the electrode negative.
The base steels are S235JR to S355JR, S235JO to S355JO, S235J2 to S355J2, S275N to S420N, S275M to S420M and P235GH to P355GH. The weld comes out smooth and clean, practically without slag residue. The deposit is crack resistant and holds high impact energy at sub-zero temperatures, with diffusible hydrogen below 4 ml per 100 g. Work is possible in all positions except vertical-down.

If you are working on an older transformer welding set, this electrode keeps a stable arc on it, without the arc going out. For the root switch the polarity to negative on the holder, as the manufacturer advises: the arc becomes calmer and the fusion more even. On thin walls keep to the smaller diameter, because production covers only 2.5 and 3.2 mm. After opening a pack move the electrodes to a quiver and bake them to the data sheet.
