BÖHLER FOX EV 55 is a high recovery basic coated electrode of the E7018-1 H4R type, for joints of high strength and toughness. The manufacturer names steel structures, tank and container building, onshore and offshore installations, shipyards and machine building. Up to the 3.2 mm diameter the electrode also suits the root pass.
The base materials are S235JR to S355J0, P235T1 to P355T1, P235T2 to P355T2, S235JRS1 to S235J4, S255N to S460N and P255NH to P355NH. The ductility of the deposit holds down to -50 degrees C, and the diffusible hydrogen does not exceed 4 ml per 100 g with a moisture resistant coating. The material also suits buffer layers under hardfacing on high carbon steels. AC and DC on both polarities widen the choice of power source.

Higher recovery means a thicker coating and more weld metal per pass, so in positional work reduce the current, so that the pool does not run away. Weld the root with the 3.2 mm diameter or smaller, then the electrode fits in the groove and stays easy to guide. Store even a moisture resistant coating in a dry place, and bake the electrodes to the instructions before a critical weld. Start buffering high carbon steel after preheating the part.
