BÖHLER FOX FF is a basic, core wire alloyed electrode of the E 22 12 B / E309-15 type for welding heat resistant austenitic rolled, forged and cast steels as well as heat resistant ferritic CrSiAl steels. The manufacturer names annealing plants, hardening shops, steam boiler construction, the crude oil industry and the ceramics industry.
The base materials are 1.4710 (GX30CrSi6), 1.4713 (X10CrAl7) and 1.4724 (X10CrAl13). Scaling resistance reaches 950 degrees C in air and oxidizing flue gas free of sulfur, 930 degrees C at up to 2 grams of sulfur per normal cubic metre and 850 degrees C above that, and in reducing flue gas 900 and 850 degrees C respectively. On joints exposed to reducing sulfurous gases the final layer is deposited with BÖHLER FOX FA.

Before you start, establish what the furnace atmosphere contains, because the sulfur level decides the limiting temperature and whether a cap layer of FOX FA is needed. Ferritic CrSiAl steels turn brittle once heated, so limit the heat input and do not warm the joint up with wide weaving. Dry the electrodes to the data sheet and weld on DC with the electrode positive.
