BÖHLER FOX HL 180 Ti is a rutile iron powder electrode of the E7024 type with a metal recovery of about 180 percent. The manufacturer directs it to multi layer welding of heavy cross sections, where what counts is the amount of metal deposited in an hour of work.
The base steels are S235JR to S355JR, S235JO to S355JO, P195TR1 to P265TR1, P195GH to P265GH and the pipe grades L245NB to L360NB and L245MB to L360MB. The slag detaches by itself and the bead comes out smooth, with no undercut at the toes. Striking is easy, which saves time over many short passes. The electrode runs on AC and on DC with the electrode negative.

Iron powder electrodes work best in the flat and horizontal positions, so plan to turn the part rather than weld out of position. With a recovery like this the pool is large, so guide the electrode resting on the groove faces and keep an even pace. Make fillet welds in one pass wherever the thickness allows, because that is where this electrode beats an ordinary rutile one. Set the current from the table of the manufacturer, because the range here is wider than for electrodes of normal recovery.
