What BÖHLER FOX KW 10 stick electrode is used for

BÖHLER FOX KW 10 is a basic coated low hydrogen electrode of the E 13 B / E410-15 type. The manufacturer uses it mainly for surfacing the sealing faces of gas, water and steam valves, where a stainless and wear resistant overlay for service up to 450 degrees C is needed.

The base materials are 1.4006 (X12Cr13), 1.4021 (X20Cr13) and AISI 410. Scaling resistance reaches 900 degrees C. When welding joints in stainless and heat resistant chromium steels of similar composition the deposit matches the colour of the parent metal and polishes very well. The electrode works in all positions except vertical-down.

  • Classification EN ISO 3581-A: E 13 B 2 2
  • AWS classification A5.4 / SFA-5.4: E410-15 (mod.)
  • Coating: basic
  • Current: DC+
  • Diameters: 2.5 / 3.2 / 4.0 mm
  • Lengths: 300 and 350 mm

The manufacturer warns plainly about dilution: at least two layers must remain after machining, so allow for that when you plan the build-up. A martensitic deposit needs preheating and post weld tempering to suit the structure. Dry the electrodes to the data sheet and keep them in a quiver, hydrogen causes cold cracks in 13Cr steels.
