What BÖHLER FOX SKWA stick electrode is used for

BÖHLER FOX SKWA is a basic coated, cored wire alloyed electrode of the E 17 B / E430-15 type. The manufacturer uses it mainly for surfacing the sealing faces of gas, water and steam valves, where a stainless and wear resistant overlay is needed.

The base materials are 1.4001 (X7Cr14), 1.4006 (X12Cr13) and 1.4057 (X17CrNi16-2). Scaling resistance reaches 900 degrees C and the hydrogen content of the deposit is below 5 ml per 100 g. Joints in stainless and heat resistant chromium steels of similar composition polish very well. The electrode welds in all positions except vertical-down and carries the KTA 1408.1 approval used in nuclear power work.

  • Classification EN ISO 3581-A: E 17 B 2 2, EN ISO 3581-B: ES430-15
  • AWS classification A5.4 / SFA-5.4: E430-15
  • Coating: basic
  • Current: DC+
  • Diameters: 3.2 / 4.0 / 5.0 mm
  • Lengths: 350 and 450 mm
  • Approvals: KTA 1408.1 (8098.00), CE

At least two layers must remain after machining, so do not cut the build-up thin in the hope that one layer will do. A ferritic martensitic deposit needs preheating and post weld tempering matched to the substrate. Dry the electrodes to the data sheet and weld on DC with the electrode positive and a short arc.
