BÖHLER Q E 7018 is a basic coated electrode of the E7018 H4R type for high quality joints. The manufacturer names steel structures, boilers and tanks, vehicle building, shipyards and machinery, and separately buffer layers when surfacing steels with a high carbon content. The metal recovery is about 115 percent.
The range of base material covers P235T1 to P355T1, S235JRS1 to S235J4, S255N to S355N, P255NH to P355NH, S255NL to S355NL and S235JR. Strength and impact energy hold down to -40 degrees C. The material copes with steel of lower metallurgical cleanliness and raised carbon, with diffusible hydrogen below 4 ml per 100 g of weld metal. Welding is possible in all positions except vertical-down.

A recovery of 115 percent means slightly more weld metal per pass, so on the first run in the groove set the current nearer the lower limit. Dry the electrodes to the data sheet before work and do not leave an open pack in the shop overnight. A short arc is the basis with a basic coating, because with a long one the porosity comes back. Lay the buffer layer on high carbon steel after preheating, in thin beads, and do not cool the part quickly.
