What Pipeshield X 90 solid MIG/MAG wire is used for

Pipeshield X 90 is a solid wire for mild steel. It suits welding mild and low-alloy steels, fine-grained grades included, in structural steelwork, on tanks, piping and series production.

It joins grades such as S460N, S460M, S460NL, S460ML, S460Q, S555Q and S460QL together with their equivalents. You can weld in all positions, including vertical up and overhead, and the wire runs well on robot and mechanised stations.

On thicker parts and in a cold workshop plan preheating to cut the risk of cold cracking. Watch the wire stick-out from the contact tip, too long a one lowers the arc voltage and worsens the fusion. Set the gas flow so the pool is covered over the whole length of the bead, and shield the station when you work in wind.
