Pipeshield X 56 is a solid MIG/MAG wire for mild and low-alloy steels, fine-grained grades included. It is used in structural steelwork, on tanks, piping and series production.
Typical parent materials are L290MB and L420MB. You can weld in all positions, including vertical up and overhead, and the wire does well on root runs.
- Classification EN ISO: 14341-A, G 42 5 M21 2Si / G 42 3 C1 2Si
- AWS classification: A5.18 / SFA-5.18, ER70S-3
- Diameters: 1.0 / 1.2 mm
On thicker parts and in a cold workshop plan preheating to cut the risk of cold cracking. Check the contact tip, a worn bore upsets the wire feed and causes burnback. Match the drive rolls to the wire diameter and check the liner, wire slip shows up at once in an unstable arc. Match the diameter to the thickness and the position, thinner wires are easier to control in constrained positions.
