Thermanit 1720 is a high alloyed ferritic stainless submerged arc (SAW) wire. Typical work covers tanks, process installations, food and chemical industry equipment and structures in contact with water and steam.
Submerged arc welding gives a very high deposition rate on long, repeatable welds. The wire also serves for cladding carbon steel surfaces.
- Classification EN ISO: 14343-A S Z 17 Mo
- AWS classification: A5.9 / SFA-5.9 ER430 (mod.)
- Shielding: flux matched to the wire, no shielding gas
After welding remove the heat tint by pickling or brushing, the oxide layer alone lowers the corrosion resistance of the joint. Watch the wire stick-out and the position of the head against the weld centre line, under a flux you cannot see the pool and a mistake shows only after the slag is chipped off. Match the flux to this wire and check how dry it is, drying the flux decides the hydrogen level in the weld.
