What Thermanit 18/17 E Mn solid MIG/MAG wire is used for

Thermanit 18/17 E Mn is a high-alloyed austenitic stainless solid wire. It works on pressure vessels, process piping and austenitic structures where corrosion resistance counts.

It joins grades such as 1.4429, 1.4436, 1.4438, 1.4439, 1.4583, AISI 316Cb and 317LN together with their equivalents. The wire also serves for cladding carbon steel surfaces, and the deposit has an austenitic structure.

After welding remove the heat tint by pickling or brushing, the oxide layer alone lowers the corrosion resistance of the joint. Set the gas flow so the pool is covered over the whole length of the bead, and shield the station when you work in wind. Check the contact tip, a worn bore upsets the wire feed and causes burnback.
