Application

What Thermanit X solid MIG/MAG wire is used for

Thermanit X is a high-alloyed solid wire for special applications. It suits welding stainless and acid-resistant steels in tank building, process piping and equipment for the chemical and food industries.

The wire suits hand work with a semiautomatic torch and mechanised stations, and it also serves for cladding carbon steel surfaces.

  • Classification EN ISO: 14343-A G 18 8 Mn
  • AWS classification: A5.9 / SFA-5.9 ER307(mod.)
  • Shielding gas: M12, M13, M21
  • Diameters: 0.8 / 0.9 / 1.0 / 1.2 / 1.6 mm
  • Approvals: TÜV (05651), DB (43.132.01), DNV, VG 95132-1, CE

Keep the heat input down and do not hold the joint hot longer than needed, austenite expands strongly and pulls the structure out of shape. Check the contact tip, a worn bore upsets the wire feed and causes burnback. Match the drive rolls to the wire diameter and check the liner, wire slip shows up at once in an unstable arc. Match the diameter to the thickness and the position, thinner wires are easier to control in constrained positions.
