Application

What Thermanit JE-308L Cryo solid MIG/MAG wire is used for

Thermanit JE-308L Cryo is a high-alloyed austenitic stainless solid wire. It works on pressure vessels, process piping and austenitic structures where corrosion resistance counts.

Among the parent materials it covers 1.4301, X5CrNi18-10, 1.4306, X2CrNi19-11, 1.4307, X2CrNi18-9 and 1.4311. The deposit keeps its toughness in the cryogenic range, so the wire goes on tanks and plant for liquefied gases, with an austenitic structure.

  • Classification EN ISO: 14343-A G 19 9 L
  • AWS classification: A5.9 / SFA-5.9 ER308L
  • Diameters: 1.0 / 1.5 mm

Use brushes and discs kept only for stainless steel, carbon steel particles cause rust staining on the face. Set the gas flow so the pool is covered over the whole length of the bead, and shield the station when you work in wind. Check the contact tip, a worn bore upsets the wire feed and causes burnback. Match the diameter to the thickness and the position, thinner wires are easier to control in constrained positions.
