What Thermanit 18/17 E Mn TIG rod is used for

Thermanit 18/17 E Mn is a high alloyed austenitic stainless TIG rod. It is used on process installations, heat exchangers, sanitary structures and parts exposed to corrosion.

The rod joins grades such as 1.4429, 1.4436, 1.4438, 1.4439, 1.4583, AISI 316Cb and 317LN, along with related materials. It also serves for cladding carbon steel surfaces, and its deposit has an austenitic structure that resists corrosion.

  • Classification EN ISO: 14343-A Z 18 16 5 N L
  • AWS classification: A5.9 / SFA-5.9 ER317L(mod.)
  • Shielding gas: I1
  • Diameters: 1.0 / 1.2 / 1.6 / 2.0 / 2.4 mm
  • Approvals: TÜV (11506), CE

Use brushes and discs kept only for stainless steel, carbon steel particles cause rust staining on the bead face. Grind the tungsten tip along its axis and hold a short arc, otherwise the pool spreads. Protect the root when you weld from one side, an oxidised underside spoils the corrosion resistance.
