What Thermanit 304 H Cu TIG rod is used for

Thermanit 304 H Cu is a medium alloyed TIG rod for high temperature service. It works on pressure vessels, pipework and austenitic steel structures where corrosion resistance matters.

The base material is 1.4907. The rod also suits cladding runs on steel and is intended for joints working at elevated temperature.

  • Classification EN ISO: 14343-A W Z 18 16 1 Cu H
  • AWS classification: A5.9 ER308H (mod.)
  • Shielding gas: I1
  • Diameters: 0.8 / 1.0 / 1.2 / 2.0 / 2.4 mm
  • Approvals: TÜV (11219), CE

Keep the interpass temperature low and the beads narrow, overheating austenitic steel promotes carbide precipitation and distortion. Keep the rod inside the gas shield even after you lift it from the pool, a cold oxidised end will contaminate the next drop. Set the gas post-flow long enough for the pool and the electrode to cool under the shield.
