Thermanit 308 H is a medium alloyed TIG rod for high temperature service. Typical work covers tanks, process installations, food and chemical industry equipment and structures in contact with water and steam.
The rod joins grades such as 1.4301, X5CrNi18-10, 1.4541, 1.4550, 1.4878, 1.4948 and X7CrNi18-9, along with related materials. It is intended for joints working at elevated temperature.

Keep the interpass temperature low and the beads narrow, overheating austenitic steel promotes carbide precipitation and distortion. Protect the root when you weld from one side, an oxidised underside spoils the corrosion resistance. Keep the rod inside the gas shield even after you lift it from the pool, a cold oxidised end will contaminate the next drop. Match the diameter to the plate thickness and the welding position, thinner rods are easier to control out of position.
