Thermanit 309 H is a high alloyed austenitic stainless submerged arc (SAW) wire, heat and creep resistant. It is used on process installations, heat exchangers, sanitary structures and parts exposed to corrosion.
The wire works as a set with a matched flux, which decides the mechanical properties of the weld. It also serves for cladding carbon steel surfaces, and its deposit has an austenitic structure that resists heat and creep.
- Classification EN ISO: 14343-A S 22 12 H
- AWS classification: A5.9 / SFA-5.9 ER309 (mod.)
- Shielding: flux matched to the wire, no shielding gas
Keep the heat input down and do not hold the joint hot longer than you need to, austenite expands strongly and pulls the structure out of shape. Match the flux to this wire and check how dry it is, drying the flux decides the hydrogen level in the weld. Keep an even flux layer over the arc, too thin a layer exposes the arc and too thick a one spoils the bead shape.
