Thermanit 309 H is a high alloyed austenitic stainless TIG rod. It works on pressure vessels, pipework and austenitic steel structures where corrosion resistance matters.
Base materials include 1.4826, 1.4828, 1.4833, X12CrNi23-13, 1.4710, 1.4713 and 1.4724. The rod is used on boilers and pressure vessels under statutory inspection, and its deposit has an austenitic structure that resists corrosion.

Keep the heat input down and do not hold the joint hot longer than you need to, austenite expands strongly and pulls the structure out of shape. Grind the tungsten tip along its axis and hold a short arc, otherwise the pool spreads. Protect the root when you weld from one side, an oxidised underside spoils the corrosion resistance. Thinner diameters suit root runs and thin sheet, thicker ones suit filling.
