Thermanit 317L is a high alloyed austenitic stainless TIG rod. Typical work covers tanks, process installations, food and chemical industry equipment and structures in contact with water and steam.
Base materials include 1.4429, 1.4434, 1.4435, 1.4438, 1.4439, AISI 316L and 316LN. The deposit composition protects the joint against intergranular corrosion, and the rod is used on process installations, heat exchangers and sanitary structures.

After welding remove the heat tint by pickling or brushing, the oxide layer alone lowers the corrosion resistance of the joint. Protect the root when you weld from one side, an oxidised underside spoils the corrosion resistance. Keep the rod inside the gas shield even after you lift it from the pool, a cold oxidised end will contaminate the next drop.
