What Thermanit A-318 Si solid MIG/MAG wire is used for

Thermanit A-318 Si is a high-alloyed austenitic stainless solid wire. Typical work covers tanks, process plant, food and chemical equipment and structures in contact with water and steam.

It joins grades such as 1.4401, 1.4404, 1.4409, 1.4435, 1.4436, 1.4437 and 1.4571 together with their equivalents. The wire also suits cladding runs on steel, and the deposit has an austenitic structure.

  • Classification EN ISO: 14343-A G 19 12 3 Nb Si
  • AWS classification: A5.9 / SFA-5.9 ER318 (mod.)
  • Shielding gas: M12, M13
  • Diameters: 0.8 / 1.0 / 1.2 / 1.5 mm
  • Approvals: TÜV (00601), DB (43.132.02), CE

Keep the heat input down and do not hold the joint hot longer than needed, austenite expands strongly and pulls the structure out of shape. Match the drive rolls to the wire diameter and check the liner, wire slip shows up at once in an unstable arc.
