Thermanit A Si is a solid MIG/MAG electrode wire for welding stainless and acid-resistant steels. It is used on process plant, heat exchangers, sanitary structures and parts exposed to corrosion.
It is used on grades such as 1.4583 and AISI 316L. The wire also serves for cladding carbon steel surfaces, and the deposit resists intergranular corrosion.
- Classification EN ISO: G 19 12 3 Nb Si
- AWS classification: ER318 (mod.)
- Diameters: 0.8 / 1.0 / 1.2 / 1.6 mm
Keep the interpass temperature low and the beads narrow, overheating austenitic steel promotes carbide precipitation and distortion. Match the drive rolls to the wire diameter and check the liner, wire slip shows up at once in an unstable arc. Watch the wire stick-out from the contact tip, too long a one lowers the arc voltage and worsens the fusion. Match the diameter to the thickness and the position, thinner wires are easier to control in constrained positions.
