What Thermanit ATS 4 TIG rod is used for

Thermanit ATS 4 is a TIG rod for welding stainless and acid-resistant steels. It works on pressure vessels, pipework and austenitic steel structures where corrosion resistance matters.

Typical base materials are X6CrNi18-11, 1.4878, 1.4850, AISI 304H, 321H and 347H. The rod also serves for cladding carbon steel surfaces, and you feed the filler into the pool by hand while the arc burns between the tungsten electrode and the weld.

  • Classification EN ISO: W 19 9 H
  • AWS classification: ER19-10H
  • Diameters: 1.6 / 2.0 / 2.4 / 3.2 mm

Keep the interpass temperature low and the beads narrow, overheating austenitic steel promotes carbide precipitation and distortion. Keep the rod inside the gas shield even after you lift it from the pool, a cold oxidised end will contaminate the next drop. Set the gas post-flow long enough for the pool and the electrode to cool under the shield. Thinner diameters suit root runs and thin sheet, thicker ones suit filling.
