Thermanit D is a TIG rod for welding stainless and acid-resistant steels. It works on pressure vessels, pipework and austenitic steel structures where corrosion resistance matters.
The rod joins materials such as 1.4828 and AISI 305. It also suits cladding runs on steel, along with root runs, thin walls and welds that need a smooth face.

After welding remove the heat tint by pickling or brushing, the oxide layer alone lowers the corrosion resistance of the joint. Keep the rod inside the gas shield even after you lift it from the pool, a cold oxidised end will contaminate the next drop. Set the gas post-flow long enough for the pool and the electrode to cool under the shield. Match the diameter to the plate thickness and the welding position, thinner rods are easier to control out of position.
