Thermanit GE-316L Cryo is a high alloyed TIG rod with controlled ferrite content of 0.02. It is used on process installations, heat exchangers, sanitary structures and parts exposed to corrosion.
The rod joins grades such as 1.4401, 1.4404, 1.4435, 1.4436, 1.4571, 1.4580 and 1.4583, along with related materials. Its deposit keeps its impact toughness down to cryogenic temperatures, so it reaches tanks and lines for liquefied gases.

Use brushes and discs kept only for stainless steel, carbon steel particles cause rust staining on the bead face. Grind the tungsten tip along its axis and hold a short arc, otherwise the pool spreads. Protect the root when you weld from one side, an oxidised underside spoils the corrosion resistance. Match the diameter to the plate thickness and the welding position, thinner rods are easier to control out of position.
