What Thermanit GE-316L Si solid MIG/MAG wire is used for

Thermanit GE-316L Si is a high-alloyed austenitic stainless solid wire. It works on pressure vessels, process piping and austenitic structures where corrosion resistance counts.

Among the parent materials it covers 1.4401, 1.4404, 1.4409, 1.4429, 1.4432, 1.4435 and 1.4436. The wire also suits cladding runs on steel, and the deposit has an austenitic structure.

  • Classification EN ISO: 14343-A G 19 12 3 L Si
  • AWS classification: A5.9 / SFA-5.9 ER316LSi
  • Shielding gas: M12, M13
  • Diameters: 0.8 / 0.9 / 1.0 / 1.2 / 1.6 / 2.0 mm
  • Approvals: TÜV (00489), DB (43.132.10), DNV, ABS, BV, LR (spec. List), CE

Keep the heat input down and do not hold the joint hot longer than needed, austenite expands strongly and pulls the structure out of shape. Check the contact tip, a worn bore upsets the wire feed and causes burnback.
