Union Al 99,7 is a TIG rod for welding aluminium and its alloys. It is used in transport, in the food industry and in structures that have to resist atmospheric corrosion.
The base material is EN AW-1200. The rod suits root runs, thin walls and welds that need a smooth face, and TIG gives you full control over the heat input and a clean bead.
- Classification EN ISO: 18273 S Al 1070 (Al99.7)
- AWS classification: A5.10 / SFA-5.10 ER1070
- Shielding gas: I1, I3
Degrease the sheet and keep the surface dry, moisture is the main cause of porosity in aluminium. Protect the root when you weld from one side, an oxidised underside spoils the corrosion resistance. Keep the rod inside the gas shield even after you lift it from the pool, a cold oxidised end will contaminate the next drop. Push the torch and keep the wire path in the feeder short and straight, aluminium coils up easily in the liner.
