Union AlMg 5 Mn is a TIG rod for welding aluminium and its alloys. It is used in transport, in the food industry and in structures that have to resist atmospheric corrosion.
The rod joins grades such as EN AW-5019, AlMg5, EN AW-5754, AlMg3, EN AW-5086, AlMg4 and AlMg4Mn, along with related materials. You feed it into the pool by hand, and TIG gives you full control over the heat input and a clean weld.

Degrease the sheet and keep the surface dry, moisture is the main cause of porosity in aluminium. Protect the root when you weld from one side, an oxidised underside spoils the corrosion resistance. Keep the rod inside the gas shield even after you lift it from the pool, a cold oxidised end will contaminate the next drop.
