What Union AlMg 3 TIG rod is used for

Union AlMg 3 is a TIG welding rod for aluminium and its alloys. It works on frames, tanks, housings and light structures in aluminium alloys.

The rod joins grades such as EN AW-5754, AlMg3, EN AW-5454, AlMg3Mn, AlMg2, EN AW-5251 and AlMg2Mn0, along with related materials. It suits root runs, thin walls and welds that need a smooth face, and it goes into aluminium structures, tanks, vehicle parts and shipbuilding.

Degrease the sheet and keep the surface dry, moisture is the main cause of porosity in aluminium. Protect the root when you weld from one side, an oxidised underside spoils the corrosion resistance. Keep the rod inside the gas shield even after you lift it from the pool, a cold oxidised end will contaminate the next drop.
