Union I 52 is a TIG rod for mild steel, including fine grained grades. It is used on steel structures, tanks, machine frames and workshop work on plain carbon steel.
The rod joins grades such as S235JR, S235JRG1, S235JRG2, S275JR, S235J0, S275J0 and S355J0, along with related materials. It handles pipeline welding including fill passes, and it is used on boilers and pressure vessels under statutory inspection.
- Classification EN ISO: W 42 5 W3Si1
- AWS classification: ER70S-6
- Diameters: 1.6 / 2.0 / 2.4 / 3.0 mm
On heavier sections and in a cold workshop plan the preheating, so that the risk of cold cracking stays down. Keep the rod inside the gas shield even after you lift it from the pool, a cold oxidised end will contaminate the next drop. Set the gas post-flow long enough for the pool and the electrode to cool under the shield. Match the diameter to the plate thickness and the welding position, thinner rods are easier to control out of position.
