What UTP 32 stick electrode is used for

UTP 32 is a basic coated tin bronze stick electrode for joining and surfacing copper tin alloys with 6 to 8 percent Sn, and for weld claddings on cast iron materials and on steel. It is easy to weld and the slag comes off easily, the corrosion resistance matches identical or similar base metals, the deposit is seawater resistant and it has very good gliding properties, which is why the electrode goes onto bearing shells, bushes and mating surfaces.

The classification is E Cu 5180B (CuSn7) to EN ISO 17777 and E CuSn-C to AWS A5.6. The corrosion resistance of the deposit matches parent materials of a similar composition. The electrode runs quietly and the slag lifts without a fight, which helps when you build up several layers on a reclaimed part.

  • Classification EN ISO 17777: E Cu 5180B (CuSn7)
  • AWS classification A5.6 / SFA-5.6: E CuSn-C (mod.)
  • Coating: basic
  • Current: DC+
  • Diameters: 2.0 / 3.2 / 4.0 mm
  • Lengths: 350 and 450 mm

Copper carries heat away quickly, so preheat heavier parts and hold the preheat through the job, otherwise the bead will not fuse. Surface with a short arc on direct current with the electrode positive, in thin runs. Clean the surface down to bare metal, oil and oxide residues give porosity. Dry the basic coating as the maker specifies.
