UTP 34 N is suitable for joining and surfacing copper aluminium alloys, especially those with a high manganese content, and for claddings on cast iron materials and steel. Its main fields of application are shipbuilding, that is propellers, pumps and fittings, and the chemical industry.
The classification covers E Cu 6338 (CuMn13Al7Fe3Ni2) to EN ISO 17777, E CuMnNiAl to AWS A5.13 and E 31-UM-200-CN to DIN 8555. The good friction coefficient makes the electrode a fit for build-ups on shafts, bearings, stamps, drawing tools and all kinds of gliding surface. Welding is spatter free and the slag comes off easily, while the deposit has high mechanical values, good corrosion resistance in oxidising media, the best gliding properties and very good machinability. The maker states it is crack resistant and pore free.

On aluminium bronzes clean the surface down to bare metal and take off the aluminium oxide layer, that film is the usual cause of inclusions in the weld. Preheat heavier castings and weld on direct current with the electrode positive, holding a short arc. Lay gliding deposits in several thin layers and clean the slag off after each one.
