Avesta 2205 Basic is a basic coated, core wire alloyed electrode of the E 22 9 3 N L B / E2209-15 type for welding duplex stainless steels such as 1.4462 / UNS S31803 and S32205. It is designed above all for 22Cr duplex steels used offshore, in shipyards, on chemical tankers, in chemical and petrochemical plant and in pulp and paper mills.
You weld with it on 1.4462 (X2CrNiMoN22-5-3), 1.4362 (X2CrNiN23-4) and 1.4162 (X2CrNiMoN21-5-1). The basic coating raises the impact toughness of the deposit, which is why the maker points this electrode at work with tighter toughness requirements. Welding runs in all positions except vertical down. The ferrite content measured to ASTM E 562 is 40 to 50 percent, and the deposit has very good resistance to pitting and stress corrosion cracking in chlorides.

A basic coating picks up moisture, so dry the electrodes to the maker data sheet and keep them in a quiver through the shift. Direct current, electrode positive, short arc, no weaving. Do not weld vertical down. On a heavier wall spread the heat over several thinner runs and watch the interpass temperature.
