Avesta 2205 is a rutile coated electrode of the E 22 9 3 N L R / E2209-17 type. It is designed above all for welding 22Cr duplex stainless steels such as 1.4462 / UNS 31803, used offshore, in shipyards, on chemical tankers, in chemical and petrochemical plant and in pulp and paper mills.
The base grades are 1.4462 (X2CrNiMoN22-5-3), 1.4362 (X2CrNiN23-4) and 1.4162 (X2CrNiMoN21-5-1). The rutile coating gives good weldability in all positions, good wetting of the edges and easy slag removal, so the bead comes out smooth and clean without long grinding. The weld metal has very good resistance to pitting and to stress corrosion cracking in chloride containing environments.

Weld on direct current with the electrode positive, holding a short arc and narrow beads without wide weaving. Duplex does not take overheating, so let the joint cool between runs and hold the interpass temperature to the WPS, otherwise the ferrite to austenite balance drifts. Keep the coating dry and close an opened pack, a damp electrode gives porosity.
