Avesta 2205-PW AC/DC is a rutile coated electrode of the E 22 9 3 N L R / E2209-17 type for 22Cr duplex stainless steels, that is 1.4462 / UNS S32205 and S31803. The maker points it at offshore work, shipyards, chemical tankers, chemical and petrochemical plant and pulp and paper mills. Thanks to a sharp, concentrated arc it handles maintenance and repair welding even where the joint faces are not particularly clean.
The base materials are 1.4462 (X2CrNiMoN22-5-3), 1.4362 (X2CrNiN23-4) and 1.4162 (X2CrNiMoN21-5-1). The electrode welds in all positions and shows its advantage vertical up and overhead. The coating is set up for easy starting and a steady arc on alternating and direct current, so it also suits older transformer sets. The weld metal has very good resistance to pitting and stress corrosion cracking in chlorides.
- Classification EN ISO 3581-A: E 22 9 3 N L R
- AWS classification A5.4 / SFA-5.4: E2209-17
- Coating: rutile
- Current: AC/DC+
- Diameters: 2.0 / 2.5 / 3.2 / 4.0 / 5.0 mm
- Lengths: 300 and 350 mm
- Approvals: TÜV (04486), DNV, Certified by CWB to CSA W48, CE
On alternating current set the amperage a little higher than on direct current and hold a short arc. Vertical up, run a narrow bead without wide weaving to keep the heat input down. Let the material cool between layers, duplex loses its phase balance once it is overheated. Keep the coating dry and close an opened tin.
