Avesta 253MA is a rutile coated electrode of the E Z 21 10 N R type, designed for the high temperature stainless steel 253 MA (1.4835 / UNS S30815), used in furnaces, combustion chambers and burners. Both the steel and the filler metal offer excellent resistance to oxidation up to 1100 degrees C.
The base grades are 1.4835 (X9CrNiSiNCe21-11-2), 1.4818 (X6CrNiSiNCe19-10) and UNS S30815. The chemical composition is balanced so that the ferrite content stays at 6 FN at most, which gives a crack resistant weld metal. The resistance to high temperature corrosion is excellent, but the maker notes that the electrode is not intended for work exposed to wet corrosion.
- Classification EN ISO 3581-A: E Z 21 10 N R 3 2
- Coating: rutile
- Current: AC/DC+
- Diameters: 2.0 / 2.5 / 3.2 / 4.0 mm
- Lengths: 300, 350 and 400 mm
- Approvals: CE
Heat resistant steels expand more than ordinary ones, so plan the bead sequence to let the structure move rather than crack on rigid fixings. Hold a short arc and narrow beads, and on thin furnace walls set the current at the lower end of the range for the diameter. After welding take the scale off with a stainless steel brush, a chromium depleted film lowers the oxidation resistance. The electrode runs on alternating and direct current.
