UTP 68 TiMo is a high performance rutile coated stick electrode of the E 19 12 3 L R 7 3 / E316L-26 type. The manufacturer intended it for joining and surfacing austenitic CrNiMo stainless steels and for dissimilar joints between austenitic and ferritic steel.
The base grades are 1.4401, 1.4571, 1.4550 and 1.4580. The deposit is resistant to intergranular corrosion and its corrosion resistance corresponds to that of low carbon and stabilized 18/8 CrNiMo steels. The thick coating yields more weld metal per stick, so on longer welds you reach for a new electrode less often. Production starts at 1.6 mm, which makes work on thin sheet easier.

Hold a short arc and do not put more heat into the joint than you have to: overheated austenite loses corrosion resistance and distorts badly. Lay narrow stringer beads and wait for the interpass temperature to drop before the next run. Pick the slag out of every layer, because leftovers can stay in the weld as inclusions. If the joint will work in a corrosive environment, pickle and passivate the weld face afterwards.
