Avesta 308/308H AC/DC is a rutile coated electrode of the E 19 9 R / E308H-17 type, designed for welding creep resistant austenitic stainless steels such as 1.4948 / 304H, exposed to temperatures above 400 degrees C. The scaling temperature is approximately 850 degrees C in air.
The base materials are 1.4301 (X5CrNi18-10), 1.4541 (X6CrNiTi18-10) and 1.4550 (X6CrNiNb18-10). The weld microstructure is austenite with 5 to 10 percent ferrite, and the general corrosion resistance matches the base material 1.4301 / 304. The rutile coating works on alternating and direct current, so the electrode also suits older transformer sets.

The H grade carries a higher carbon content for creep resistance, so do not replace it with a 308L electrode when the structure works hot. Weld with a short arc, straight beads, no wide weaving and a low interpass temperature. Clean with a stainless steel brush kept only for this material, iron residues leave rust staining. Store the electrodes in a dry room.
