Avesta 308L/MVR is a rutile coated, core wire alloyed electrode of the E 19 9 L R / E308L-17 type for all position welding of 1.4301 and 1.4307 / 304L stainless steels. The maker gives a maximum service temperature of 350 degrees C.
The electrode suits grades 1.4301 (X5CrNi18-10), 1.4306 (X2CrNi19-11) and 1.4307 (X2CrNi18-9). The weld microstructure is austenite with 5 to 10 percent ferrite and it has very good corrosion resistance under fairly severe conditions, for example in oxidising acids and in cold or dilute reducing acids. The approvals cover TÜV, DB and DNV.
- Classification EN ISO 3581-A: E 19 9 L R 3 2
- AWS classification A5.4 / SFA-5.4: E308L-17
- Coating: rutile
- Current: AC/DC+
- Diameters: 2.5 mm
- Lengths: 350 mm
- Approvals: TÜV (01064), DB (30.014.17), DNV, CE
The electrode comes in the 2.5 mm diameter only, so it is a typical site electrode for thin walls and root runs. Set the current at the lower end of the range, hold a short arc and move on, so that the sheet does not overheat. After welding pickle and passivate the face if the part works in a corrosive environment. Close an opened pack, a rutile coating picks up moisture too.
