BÖHLER Q E 308L-17 is a rutile coated, core wire alloyed electrode for welding austenitic stainless steels such as 1.4301 and 1.4307 / 308L. The joint works at temperatures up to 350 degrees C.
The data sheet lists the grades 1.4301 (X5CrNi18-10), 1.4306 (X2CrNi19-11) and 1.4307 (X2CrNi18-9). The electrode welds easily on AC and on DC with the electrode positive, with minimum spatter. The slag releases by itself and the weld comes out smooth and clean. The approvals cover TÜV, ABS and DNV.
- Classification EN ISO 3581-A: E 19 9 L R 3 2
- AWS classification A5.4 / SFA-5.4: E308L-17
- Coating: rutile
- Current: AC/DC+
- Diameters: 2.0 / 2.5 / 3.2 / 4.0 mm
- Lengths: 300 and 350 mm
- Approvals: TÜV (10647), ABS, DNV, CE
The Q line is the straightforward workshop choice for 18/8 steel when there are no extra toughness requirements. Set the current in the lower part of the range for the diameter and keep the arc short, an overheated sheet loses corrosion resistance. Keep a separate stainless steel brush for cleaning. Close an opened pack and store it in a dry place.
