Avesta 383 AC/DC is a rutile coated, fully austenitic electrode of the E 27 31 4 Cu L R / E383-17 type, designed primarily for welding 1.4563 / UNS N08028 (Alloy 28) and similar steels. Its applications are found in the offshore industry, in heat exchangers and in joints in the chemical industry, for instance in the manufacture of phosphoric acid.
The base materials are 1.4563 (X1NiCrMoCu31-27-4) and UNS N08028. The weld metal has high corrosion resistance in sulphuric and phosphoric acids and excellent pitting resistance in acidic solutions containing chlorides and fluorides. The rutile coating works on alternating and direct current.
- Classification EN ISO 3581-A: E 27 31 4 Cu L R
- AWS classification A5.4 / SFA-5.4: E383-17
- Coating: rutile
- Current: AC/DC+
- Diameters: 2.5 / 3.2 / 4.0 mm
- Lengths: 300 and 350 mm
A fully austenitic deposit with no ferrite is sensitive to hot cracking, so keep the heat input down: narrow beads, a short arc, a low interpass temperature and minimum dilution from the parent metal. Fill the crater completely, that is where a crack usually starts. After welding remove the heat tint and passivate the surface if the part goes into acids.
