BÖHLER CM 5-IG is a low-alloyed, creep resistant solid wire. It suits welding CrMo steels in power generation, on superheaters, headers and pressure piping in chromium molybdenum steel.
Parent materials are 1.7362, X12CrMo5 and ASTM A 182. The deposit stands up to creep at elevated temperature, and the wire runs under shielding gas, fed continuously from a semiautomatic torch.
- Classification EN ISO: 21952-A G CrMo5Si
- AWS classification: A5.28 / SFA-5.28 ER80S-B6
- Shielding gas: M21
Plan the preheating and the post weld heat treatment to the WPS for the grade in hand, CrMo steels harden in the heat affected zone. Check the contact tip, a worn bore upsets the wire feed and causes burnback. Match the drive rolls to the wire diameter and check the liner, wire slip shows up at once in an unstable arc. A change of shielding mixture changes the character of the arc, so it is worth a test piece before production.
