BÖHLER FOX CN 16/6 M-HD is a basic coated, high efficiency electrode of the E Z 16 6 Mo B type for welding soft martensitic forged and cast steels. The high chromium content improves the corrosion resistance in water, steam and a seawater atmosphere. The maker names turbines, pumps and compressor parts, and hydro turbine engineering in particular.
The base materials are 1.4405 (GX4CrNiMo16-5-1), 1.4313 (X3CrNiMo13-4) and 1.4317 (GX4CrNi13-4). The electrode has a stable arc, good weld pool control, easy slag detachability and a clean bead. The H5 mark in the classification stands for a low hydrogen content, which the maker treats as a necessary prerequisite for this material. The 2.5 and 3.2 mm diameters are approved for all positions except vertical down.
- Classification EN ISO 3581-A: E Z 16 6 Mo B 6 2 H5
- Coating: basic
- Current: DC+
- Diameters: 3.2 / 4.0 mm
- Lengths: 350 and 450 mm
- Approvals: TÜV (19071), CE
The high efficiency shortens the time to fill a heavy groove, but it also puts in more heat, so measure the interpass temperature instead of guessing. Match the preheating and the post weld tempering to the cast steel grade. Dry the electrodes to the maker data sheet and take them from the quiver one at a time, an open pack in a damp shop loses the H5 property in a few hours.
