What BÖHLER FOX EV 85 stick electrode is used for

BÖHLER FOX EV 85 is a basic coated electrode with a MnNiMo deposit, of the E11018-G H4R type, with high ductility and crack resistance. The manufacturer directs it to high strength fine grained structural steels, with the ductility held at -60 degrees C.

The base materials are S620QL1 to S690QL1, and further S620Q, S620QL, S690Q and S690QL. All welding positions except vertical-down are at your disposal. The diffusible hydrogen stays below 4 ml per 100 g and the coating stands up to damp air. The electrode carries TÜV, German railways DB and BV approvals.

On S690 steel cold cracking is the main threat, so preheating, dry electrodes and slow cooling form a set from which you give up nothing. Lay narrow beads and do not exceed the heat input in the procedure. Watch out for accidental arc strikes outside the groove, because in this class of steel they turn into micro cracks. Inspect the joint after it has cooled, best after 48 hours, because hydrogen cracks appear with a delay.
