What BÖHLER FOX FF-A stick electrode is used for

BÖHLER FOX FF-A is a rutile, core wire alloyed electrode of the E 22 12 R / E309-17 type for welding heat resistant rolled, forged and cast steels as well as heat resistant ferritic CrSiAl steels. The usual places of work are annealing plants, hardening shops, steam boiler houses, refineries and ceramics works.

The base grades are 1.4710 (GX30CrSi6), 1.4713 (X10CrAl7) and 1.4724 (X10CrAl13). Scaling resistance reaches 950 degrees C in air and in oxidizing flue gas free of sulfur, and drops to 850 degrees C once the sulfur content passes 2 grams per normal cubic metre. On joints in CrSiAl steels exposed to sulfurous gases the cap layer is made with FOX FA. The bead comes out smooth and the slag releases easily.

  • Classification EN ISO 3581-A: E 22 12 R 3 2
  • AWS classification A5.4 / SFA-5.4: E309-17
  • Coating: rutile
  • Current: AC/DC+
  • Diameters: 2.5 / 3.2 / 4.0 mm
  • Lengths: 350 mm
  • Approvals: TÜV (01315), ABS (309-17), CE

The rutile version runs on AC as well as DC, so it fits furnace repairs in the field where the power source is whatever is available. Keep the arc short and the beads narrow, and set the current in the lower part of the range on thin chamber walls. Brush the scale off with a stainless steel brush before the next layer. For heavy walls the manufacturer recommends the basic FOX FF.
