What BÖHLER FOX FFB stick electrode is used for

BÖHLER FOX FFB is a basic coated, cored wire alloyed electrode of the E 25 20 B / E310-15 type for welding heat resistant rolled and forged steels and cast steel grades. The manufacturer names annealing and hardening furnaces, steam boilers and the crude oil and ceramics industries.

The base materials are 1.4586 (X5NiCrMoCuNb22-18), 1.4710 (GX30CrSi6) and 1.4713 (X10CrAl7). The deposit keeps its properties down to -196 degrees C and is scaling resistant up to 1150 degrees C. The manufacturer warns against service between 650 and 900 degrees C because of the risk of embrittlement. Heat resistant CrSiAl steels exposed to sulfurous flue gas are finished with a cap layer of FOX FA.

  • Classification EN ISO 3581-A: E 25 20 B 2 2
  • AWS classification A5.4 / SFA-5.4: E310-15 (mod.)
  • Coating: basic
  • Current: DC+
  • Diameters: 2.5 / 3.2 / 4.0 / 5.0 mm
  • Lengths: 300, 350 and 450 mm
  • Approvals: TÜV (00143), CE

The embrittlement range of 650 to 900 degrees C is the most important line on the data sheet, so check the service temperature of the part before you choose this electrode. On heavy sections and rigid structures the basic coating has the advantage over the rutile FFB-A. Dry the electrodes to the data sheet, weld on DC with the electrode positive, run narrow beads and let the work cool between layers.
