BÖHLER FOX Red AR 160 is a high performance electrode with a rutile-acid coating, of the E7024-1 type, with a metal recovery of about 160 percent. The manufacturer points it at gravity welding and at automatic contact welding, where the electrode works in a guide, without the welder taking part all the time.
The base materials are S235JRG2 to S355J2 as well as P235GH, P265GH, P295GH, P355GH and P355N. The amount of weld metal per unit of time is very high and the arc runs calmly on alternating current. The metal flows well into corners and tight transitions, so a fillet weld fills evenly. The deposit gives clean radiographic results, and plate with rust or a shop primer gives the electrode no trouble.

For gravity welding set the guide so that the electrode angle stays constant through the whole run, and check the current setting on a test joint. Working by hand, keep the coating resting on the material and drag the electrode without weaving. Despite the tolerance to rust and primer, remove heavier deposits, because at the 6.0 mm diameter the volume of gas from the surface grows. On DC connect the electrode to the negative pole.
