BÖHLER FOX Red BR 160 is a high performance electrode with a rutile-basic coating and a weld metal recovery of 160 percent, for unalloyed and fine grained steels in steel structures. The manufacturer names the welding of primer coated plate as the main application: the slag comes off easily and the bead is smooth and finely rippled.
It works on the steels S235JRG2 to S355J2, on the pressure vessel steels P235GH, P265GH and P295GH, on fine grained steels up to P355N and P355M, and on shipbuilding steels of grades A to E and AH 32 to NVE 36. As welded, the deposit has a yield strength of about 430 MPa, a tensile strength of about 520 MPa and an impact energy of 47 J at -20 degrees C.

High recovery means a thick coating with iron powder, so guide the electrode with the contact technique in the flat and horizontal positions, where it gives the most. Dry damp electrodes for 2 hours at 200 to 250 degrees C, as the manufacturer states. For positional welds and tacking take an electrode of normal recovery, for example FOX EV 50 or FOX ETI.
