What BÖHLER FOX SAS 2-A stick electrode is used for

BÖHLER FOX SAS 2-A is a rutile coated, cored wire alloyed stabilized electrode of the E 19 9 Nb R / E347-17 type, intended mainly for welding the titanium and niobium stabilized austenitic stainless steels 1.4541 / 321 and 1.4546 / 347.

The base grades are 1.4301 (X5CrNi18-10), 1.4306 (X2CrNi19-11) and 1.4311 (X2CrNiN18-9). The electrode handles easily on AC and DC, carries a high current with minimum spatter, the slag releases by itself and the bead profile is smooth and clean. The corrosion resistance corresponds to that of 316Ti, with good resistance to general and pitting corrosion, and the maximum service temperature is 400 degrees C.

  • Classification EN ISO 3581-A: E 19 9 Nb R 3 2
  • AWS classification A5.4 / SFA-5.4: E347-17
  • Coating: rutile
  • Current: AC/DC+
  • Diameters: 2.0 / 2.5 / 3.2 / 4.0 / 5.0 mm
  • Lengths: 300, 350 and 450 mm
  • Approvals: TÜV (01105), DB (30.014.06), ABS, DNV, CE

The choice between SAS 2 and SAS 2-A comes down to conditions: the basic type gives toughness, the rutile one easier handling and a neater bead on long welds that stay visible after assembly. Keep the interpass temperature down, because overheating a stabilized steel raises the risk of intergranular corrosion. Brush the oxide film off with a stainless steel wire brush.
