BÖHLER NiBAS 70/20-IG is a TIG rod for welding nickel alloys. It goes into tanks and pipework made of nickel alloys, and into cladding layers on steel.
The rod suits grades such as NiCr15Fe. Its deposit keeps its impact toughness down to cryogenic temperatures, so it also reaches tanks and lines for liquefied gases, and it is used on boilers and pressure vessels under statutory inspection.
- Classification EN ISO: S Ni 6082 (NiCr20Mn3Nb)
- AWS classification: ERNiCr-3
- Diameters: 1.6 / 2.0 / 2.4 mm
Move the pool more slowly than on steel, nickel alloys are sluggish and will not flow to the groove edges on their own. Protect the root when you weld from one side, an oxidised underside spoils the corrosion resistance. Keep the rod inside the gas shield even after you lift it from the pool, a cold oxidised end will contaminate the next drop. Match the diameter to the material thickness and the welding position, thinner rods are easier to control out of position.
