Thermanit 35/45 Nb is a TIG rod for welding nickel alloys. It goes into tanks and pipework made of nickel alloys, and into cladding layers on steel.
The rod suits root runs, thin walls and welds that need a smooth face. It also serves for cladding carbon steel surfaces.

Degrease the joint before welding, because sulphur and lead residues left after machining cause hot cracking in nickel. Protect the root when you weld from one side, an oxidised underside spoils the corrosion resistance. Keep the rod inside the gas shield even after you lift it from the pool, a cold oxidised end will contaminate the next drop. Match the diameter to the material thickness and the welding position, thinner rods are easier to control out of position. Keep the interpass temperature low and limit weaving, nickel is prone to hot cracking.
